This page is an infrequently updated list of my favorite Elder Scrolls fanfics, and links to where to read them.

Can you guess my favorite race lol

Like Lightning by jottingprosaist (jane_potter)

A traumatized Dunmer Dragonborn is invited to Windhelm by Ulfric Stormcloak, where he struggles to heal mentally and physically. My favorite fanfic of all time. ~100k words, slow burn, tragically unfinished.

Part of a series that includes a direct prequel, some miscellaneous scenes, and one in-character academic paper.

The pointed undercurrent of Stormcloak’s words resolves as you read the letter a third time. Having heard that your current circumstances are less than favourable… I can guarantee both your welcome and your safety here.

Having heard that you were tortured for three months in the depths of the Thalmor Embassy, he wishes to graciously extend the shelter of his castle and his faction. Perhaps he hopes that you’ve been embittered enough to abandon your own neutrality and take up arms with his cause, Dunmer or no. Perhaps even the great champion of Nord independence can make an exception for a Dunmer who is also Dragonborn, when the tactical and logistical realities of war begin to weigh heavily.

(A slowburn with bitter arguing, reluctant kinship, and romance in equal measures as the Dragonborn recovers from trauma, Ulfric is confronted with his major failings, and the plot lines of the game unravel everywhere.)

Breathing Water by Thanitopsyturvy

Neloth recruits Teldryn Sero on a reckless quest for legendary artifacts. The author is a master at taking existing magical lore and twisting it around in compelling ways. ~40k words, romance, enemies-to-friends-to-lovers, complete.

Neloth is a scholar, first and foremost.

Upon hearing a great rumor, he embarks upon a journey to find The Arms of Chaos: two staves of legend capable of unspeakable power. As a precautionary measure, he hires Teldryn Sero, the self-proclaimed "Best Swordsman in All of Morrowind." However, Neloth is one of the few people still alive who knows Teldryn's little secret.

With their fates intertwined, the two Dunmer head for Skyrim, unaware of the trials that lay before them, as well as the rewards their journey might reap.

Liminal Bridges (sequel to Breathing Water) by Thanitopsyturvy

In the sequel to Breathing Water, Neloth, Teldryn, and Talvas are thrust back to Skyrim, where they get involved with the College of Winterhold. ~30k words, established relationship and another developing relationship, unfinished and infrequently updated.

A year has passed since Neloth and Teldryn journeyed to Skyrim in search of the Arms of Chaos. Now, a new threat looms on the horizon -- mercurial and shrouded by ghosts of the past -- forcing Neloth, Teldryn, and Talvas to abandon the life they knew.

While trying to keep their wits about them and their feet beneath them, they are reminded of this fundamental truth: that the only constant in life is change.

Day and Dusk by Morningside

Released from his duty to Auir-El, Knight-Paladin Gelebor wanders Skyrim, and meets a woman with a similar story. Short and sweet. ~6k words, rarepair, lots of lore and theology talk, complete.

When the snow finally slows, he sees the statue again – and realizes his mistake. The figure is female, and she holds aloft a star, not a sun. In her other hand is a crescent moon. He has been walking towards the shrine of a Daedra, not the Lord of Light. So far away from civilization – he should have known.

While searching for answers on how to help the Betrayed, Knight-Paladin Gelebor stumbles across Aranea Ienith as she keeps her long, lonely vigil at the shrine of Azura. It's all a little too familiar.
